College Recruiting Timeline

Want to play in college? Whether you're interested in DI, DII or DIII, the best way to get to your goal is by planning ahead, knowing the rules and understanding the process to undertake from the first day of high school to signing day. Check out our recruiting timeline below, a general guide to getting known and getting signed.

Freshman

  • Become familiar with the NCAA DI, DII and DIII academic requirements
  • Set an academic goal pertaining to the NCAA division you are interested in pursuing
  • Meet with school guidance counselor before registering for classes to help you along your desired academic path
  • Showcase yourself at tournaments via your play and your character

Sophomore

  • Double check with guidance counselor that you are still on the proper path for your desired NCAA academic path and/or change your academic path if you wish to change NCAA paths
  • Take PSAT
  • Become familiar with what college atmosphere you would be interested in (big, small, mountainous, coastal, city, rural, hot, cold, etc.)
  • Begin to make a desired list of colleges you would like to attend
  • Contact these colleges coaches, notifying them of upcoming showcases you will be attending
  • End of Sophomore year, register online with the NCAA Eligibility Center

Junior

  • You may receive contact from college coaches
  • Respond in a timely fashion to all colleges that spark your interest
  • Re-evaluate your desired college list (may grow or be narrowed)
  • Begin taking unofficial visits to your new desired college list
  • Take SAT and/or ACT
  • Continue to showcase yourself at tournaments with your club team (make sure your tournament profile is up to date with your current contact information)
  • Make sure you are still on path for your desired NCAA division

Senior

  • Final meeting with guidance counselor to make sure you have met all of the requirements
  • Narrow your college list down
  • Set up official visits
  • Apply to colleges
  • Sign NLI
