About the WPSL

With more than 100 teams participating, the Women's Premier Soccer League is the largest women's soccer league in the world. Founded in 1998, the league offers amateur players the opportunity to develop at the highest level offered in the U.S.


Wake FC will embark on its inaugural season in 2019 and will compete in the Carolinas Conference of the South Region. The club will face opponents from around North and South Carolina.

The team is coached by head coach Stephen Basso. Besides serving as the Director of Women's Soccer at Wake FC, coach Basso brings a wealth of experience as a player and coach, including the following:

- Italian/American Dual Citizen, born in San Jose, Costa Rica
- High School All American(Hammond High- Howard County MD)
- Product of DC United's Youth Academy
- Went on trial with Juventus, Eintract Frankfurt & Mainz 05, before signing first
professional contract at 19 years old with SV Darmstadt 1898(Germany)
- Played for Richmond Kickers, Penn FC, and Crystal Palace Baltimore of the USL/NASL
- Played for Harrisburg Heat, Ontario Fury and Rochester Lancers of the
MASL/MISL(Professional Indoor Soccer)
- Member of the US National Indoor/Arena Soccer Team
- Technical Director/Junior Academy Director at South Central PA Soccer Academy
- Director of Girls Soccer at Capital Area Soccer Association(CASA, Harrisburg PA)
